Featurecraft (ex-Zenthe) - Engineered Timber Panels and Battens (FSC and PEFC certified range) are architectural and aesthetically pleasing and will make a feature out of any project.
Many options for perforation and machining of the panels. Substrates available for perforations and machining are painted FR MDF, timber veneer on FR MDF Black or Natural or FR Plywood.
Acoustic panels with black felt-backing behind the panel and installed over Autex AAB 20-100 acoustic blanket can achieve NRC values of up to 0.95 (depending on the percentage of the panel that is perforated or machined). Perforations are available in a range of patterns and configurations including holes, slots, saw cuts, grooves with the option of custom perforations.
Non-acoustic panels are also available and these include V grooves, sawcuts, inlaid aluminum inserts and also custom machining. Non-acoustic panels have the machining on the face of the panel and therefore these panels don’t require the black felt backing.
Featurecraft recommend a 4mm gap between the panels which gives the negative detail effect, we also have the option of an aluminium edge trim that protrudes 2mm from the face of the panel. This can be powder-coated or anodized in a range of colours with the most popular being black powder-coating.
FSC and PEFC certified with COC available through invoicing.
Contributes towards points in Green Star NZ and Homestar.
Featurecraft Ltd (ex-Zenthe) is a young company, manufacturing decorative wall and ceiling linings. Typically battens and panels. The company is a certified supplier of FSC-certified and PEFC-certified wood products. As they learn and grow in this industry, environmental values also grow within the company.
Shop drawings are also available through Featurecraft, helping ensure the products and systems are made right, first time and are tailored to the specific location in the project.
The team has a good understanding of the construction industry and collaborate with the design teams from concept design through to detailed design then the tender process. As the project progresses through the construction phases Featurecraft works with the installation contractor to provide support throughout every stage of the project.
Featurecraft is 100% locally owned and manufactures all its products in Hawkes Bay , New Zealand, then selling throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Suitable for interior spaces in commercial offices, hotels, restaurants, retail, multi-functional halls, art galleries, libraries, theatres, auditoriums, schools and universities.
The panels have the option of being faced with a variety of timber veneers and used as a decorative wall panel. As well as being perforated in an array of patterns which when combined with the substrate and veneer options give flexibility of design.
Featurecraft's Globe (wall panels) and Impact (ceiling panels) achieve fire group ratings of 1S for NZ and 1 for Australia without an intumescent coating. Perforated panels are backed with black felt backing, and can offer high NRC values when installed over AAB 20-100 acoustic blanket.
PANEL INSTALLATION
Panels can be screw fixed into timber framed or steel framed walls / ceilings, or can use a combination of screw fixing and adhesive fixing if aiming to reduce the number of screws. (Please note screw fix is recommended for acoustic panels as these have the felt backing which limits the use of construction adhesive.)
Pneumatic applied staples can be used for V-grooved, sawcut panels and stepped slots. This can also be used in conjunction with construction adhesive where there is no felt backing.
Stepped Slot Fixing - For some of the perforation patterns, Featurecraft can step the perforations i.e. machine the perforation part way through the panel. This allows the heads of the screws to be set-in from the face of the panel. This works well for hole and slot perforations.
BATTEN INSTALLATION
- Place batten infill into rebate of batten, ensure to align in the center of the overall batten width.
- Screw batten infill down once aligned using a 6-8 gauge screw
- Screw the connecter trim to the Featurecraft ceiling or wall panel frame or relevant trim in the specified spacings.
- Insert necessary self-clamping joiner(ZSCJ)clip components into the prepared slots at batten ends.
- Clip the prepared batten onto the ceiling or wall batten connecter (ZBCHD), do so close to the final position
- Apply PVA glue to the end of the battens, Part A of batten 1, and Part B of batten 2.g.Gently tap batten 2 to meet and clamp into batten 1. Ensure the battens are perfectly lined up.
(For MDF with timber veneer battens make sure to take extra caution not to damage the veneer when handling the battens on site)
