Product Description

Bokashi is a Japanese word, translated means fermented organic matter and is made by treating plant-based by-products with EM and then dried for longer shelf life. In this form, the EM microbes, when introduced to an organic matter source such as food waste, go to work. Bokashi can be successfully used to treat putrescible waste, which results in a higher decomposition of organic matter and virtually no odour during process. This unique method can produce nutrient rich compost in less half the time of conventional methods, without the unpleasantness associated with composting. When compared to traditional composting systems, you produce an incredibly healthy soil in just 4-6 weeks compared to the 6-8 months that it can take using traditional composting processes.

Technical and Environmental Benefits

  • It occurs in an anaerobic (without air) environment in a sealed container. A significant reduction in unpleasant smells from both open and closed systems
  • Divert waste from landfill and turn it into fertilizer.
  • This method of composting especially suits apartment dwellers, or people with limited outdoor space.
  • These EM pickle the food waste and increase the nutritional value via fermentation.
  • Once the food waste has been pickled sufficiently, it can be dug into the garden and it helps greatly increase soil fertility and range of healthy microorgnisms which assist in healthy plant growth, as well as helping to suppress any disease creating microorgnisms.
