Application and Purpose

Suitable for exterior uses where there is a high risk of accelerated corrosion. It has very good colour and gloss retention and is suitable for roofing, cladding, rainwater goods and garage doors. For information concerning product use in areas not covered by ColorCote® ZinaCore™ refer to the ColorCote® ZinaCore X™ and/or AlumiGard X™ technical brochures or contact Pacific Coilcoaters for details. ZinaCore is not suitable for use as water tanks or areas where a constantly wet environment is maintained or in constantly running water or in contact with soil.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation: Do not use ZinaCore for a pitch of less than 3 degrees (8 degrees for corrugated profiles) to avoid ponding and premature degradation of the coating system.

Care must be taken when installing ZinaCore in combination with or in close proximity to these materials:

  • Copper and Brass—Avoid contact with, and water runoff from, copper and brass onto ZinaCore products as they will cause excessive corrosion.
  • Non-galvanised steel, copper, brass, lead, stainless steel or monel metal—Do not use in direct contact with ZinaCore.
  • Lead flashings—Do not use these in contact with ZinaCore. Soft-edge aluminium or notching of flashings are recommended alternatives.
  • Wood—Tanilised timber contains copper, and therefore must not come into contact with ZinaCore. ColorCote recommends PVC tape or similar barrier between materials to avoid corrosion.

Installation procedures involving self-drilling screws, drills and hacksaws etc., will leave deposits of swarf and metal particles.
These particles including blind rivet shanks, nails and screws should be swept and washed from the roof at the end of each day.

Maintenance: The service life is extended by regular washing. Contaminants should be removed by mechanical washing with water and a soft bristle brush at least every six months, or more frequently if contaminant build-up keeps occurring.

Class 4 coated screws are recommended for ZinaCore and will give the best service life.

ColorCote® is a baked on paint system which has different weathering characteristics to standard air drying paints. Do not use touch up paint on ColorCote® products. Minor scratches should be left alone.
