Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer has been tailored to be a waterborne 'adhesive primer' over a series of surfaces usually considered difficult to coat or in need of expensive pretreatment. Fast drying, easy application and wide compatibility with topcoats are added features of this product.
Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer has been certified by Environmental Choice NZ as well as independently reviewed by EnviroSpec for its points contribution potential in Green Star NZ and Homestar building rating systems.
Unwanted paint and paint containers can be returned to the Resene PaintWise paint and paint packaging recovery programme. Returns are donated to community groups, sent to solvent recovery, packaging is recycled and other paint goes into covering graffiti and research on alternative uses. See link to Resene PaintWise.
Additional benefits include:
• Rapid dry time.
• Unsurpassed adhesion over a variety of nonferrous surfaces.
• Useful over plastics, such as Formica® laminates.
• Compatible with all topcoats tested.
• May be overcoated within two hours with waterborne topcoats.
Resene started its quest towards more sustainable practices in the 1950s when it introduced waterborne paint. In 1996 Resene became the first New Zealand paint company to offer an extensive range of Environmental Choice approved products, Resene has since continued innovating in this space. In 2007 Resene Zylone Sheen VOC Free was introduced, and more recently Non VOC tinters have been introduced. The Cool Colours range provides exterior paints formulated to reflect solar radiation that would normally be absorbed. This is claimed to reduce substrate stress, improve paint longevity, and can help reduce heat absorption through building fabric which in turn could mean less air conditioning requirements. Resene also operates the PaintWise recycling programme, which includes a world-first" mobile paint collection and recovery
Typical uses:

• Aluminium
• Baked enamels
• Copper and its alloys
• Glass and ceramics
• Laminated surfaces
• Melamine

Application:
Apply by spray, brush, speed brush or roller. Light bubbling may occur with some rollers and will require laying off. See Resene Data Sheet D47a and product label for full details.
Limitations:
1. Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer is not designed to give long-term exterior protection without overcoating. Durability of up to three months may be expected in mild marine conditions or better.
2. The system will usually attain maximum adhesion after several days.
3. Might not adhere to all plastics. A test patch is recommended.
Resene products are guaranteed to provide film integrity and adhesion for the expected life of the paint system. See the link for a full copy of the Resene Promise of quality, which includes details of the expected paint system life.
Maintenance: Avoid cleaning the paint finish until at least four weeks after application time to ensure it has had sufficient time to fully develop its properties. Keep any cleaning to a minimum to avoid damaging the paint film. Follow the care and cleaning instructions in the Resene Caring for your paint finish brochure.
